With the 5 ATW▸ 150/2s due back in June a second set is rumoured to be on the cards, this time utilising ex Virgin class 57 Thimderbirds, as used on the Wagex between Cardiff and Holyhead

too many lines which network rail class as fragile on route 12 and those that arnt are stop start which im sure d m will agree with isnt ideal for locos, not sure about route 13 unless its another one for taunton to cardiff, the only reason i can see is the summer jobbie to wemouth but as already stated most likly not going to happen

I've heard on the reliable grapevine that another loco hauled set may be used in Cornwall from May, it is just something that is being looked into though and not definate.

I suppose the money FGW▸ save from not hiring the ATW▸ 150s can be used to hire another loco set. I read somewhere that Dft are funding the cost of the current loco hauled set operating Cardiff-Taunton until May after which time FGW will have to pay for it.

Chances are they won't keep it up for much longer after that then.

why can the locos for the sleeper not be used in the day? would only need the coaches then
Why not just uncouple the seated vehicles (including BSO▸ ) off the back of the sleepers and use them as day coaches? As others have posted all RUMORS at the moment. And highly unlikely ones in my view.

A seated sleeper coach only has 48 seats.

This should be interesting Is this to operate routes around the Bristol area? No it's just another RUMOUROne of the best inane rumors doing the rounds at the moment is Loco Haulage and the Exmouth branch. Network Rail have replaced the lineside signs on the branch with the type that show a differential speed restriction that displays the line speeds for Loco's / LHCS▸ and DMU▸ 's. The restriction of 30mph has exisited for some time for Loco's / LHCS but not shown on the lineside signage. Because of this apparent expenditure it has been taken as read that Loco's / LHCS will be used on the Exmouth line. Nobody actually gave much thought to the fact that a round trip at 30mph with the guard leaping out and slamming doors etc is going to play merry hell with the half hourly schedule. You would be luck to manage a round trip in an hour. Funniest thing I heard this week.

A bit like how the HST▸ boards they installed some months back at Bedminster and Parson St don't mean we'll be getting through trains to London appearing in the timetable. I imagine that in both cases it's for flexibility in case of DMU failures.

More probably in the case of the Exmouth branch as a result of some engineering jobbie making rapid progress down the branch and when challenged professing ignorance of the 30mph restriction for non MU▸ trains.
