I was sold an anytime return from Bristol to Swindon today at ^16.10, whereas according to the Trainline, off peak tickets (around ^11) are valid all day between Xmas and New Year. I queried this with the TM(resolve) and he said he had no knowledge of off peak tickets being valid first thing.

Who was correct? (By the way I have a season from Nailsea to Bristol, so this wan't a question of buying on board only enabling me to get the highest fare.)

What should I do tomorrow?

Get a refund. Off Peak are valid according to FGWtickets.co.uk

Yeah been an easement on restrictions, so you should have been allowed an off-peak ticket.

Thanks Ollie. Anything I can quote, if the same thing happens tomorrow?

The Christmas and New Year Leaflet that was issued by FGW (First Great Western).

"Ticket Restrictions
Evening Peak restrictions on First Great Western services will be lifted on
Christmas Eve. Holders of Off-Peak, Off-Peak Day and Off-Peak Travelcard
tickets may use any First Great Western train during the evening peak.
Peak travel restrictions will remain lifted over the entire Christmas and New Year
period, both morning and evening, from 27 December until 4 January.
Off-Peak, Off-Peak Day and Off-Peak Travelcard tickets will be valid at all times of
day on First Great Western services between these dates."

Will add that it's appalling the train manager wasn't aware of this, how many unknowing / unquestioning people have been sold peak tickets?

I find it remarkable. What was he doing with those he found with Off-peak returns to London - surcharging them? For a family of 4 from Bristol that would would run into hundreds of pounds, and would be in the press as quick as a flash.

I have to buy my (somewhat lengthened) annual tomorrow,  so I will ask at the ticket office for a complaint form.

Another case of lack of "attention to detail". Failing to inform staff of the relaxation over the Christmas period.

Plus it's another example of the numerous complications which bedevil  the current fare system.

For what it's worth,  having had around four and a half grand extracted from my Credit Card at Swindon this lunchtime, the thought of picking a fight over ^4 didn't seem worth it.

But I was sold the cheap fare today.

I was selling 'anytime' tickets this morning. Knew nothing about restrictions being lifted, until I looked on here!
