From the Wiltshire Times:

Quote
Police dogs and scenes of crime officers have been called in after a robbery attempt at Trowbridge Railway Station within the last hour.

The Wiltshire Times and Chippenham News understands a member of staff in the ticket office was tied up during the incident.

Detectives are at the scene and a search of the area for the offender is well underway.

Wiltshire Police helicopter has also been drafted in as part of the search.

Details of the incident are sketchy but the robbery is thought to have happened about 4pm.

Trains are running as normal but the ticket office will remain closed until tomorrow.

Looks like whoever it was has got caught- thank goodness.

Good work to the police for doing this so quickly.

Good on them! Of all the stereotypes of teens constantly being said, it makes me feel so good when something like this happens. It takes courage and respect to do this.

They are in the main station building and were added during the recent improvement work, which included an additional sales window replacing the temporary arrangement in the old parcels office, the entrance to which was bricked off. And a very good job was done as well.

I wouldn't describe them as 'public' being as they are on railway property.

A man has been charged with robbery following an armed raid at Trowbridge Railway Station during which an elderly ticket attendant was tied up.

Tommy Burton, 26, of Navigator Close, Hilperton, is due to appear before magistrates in Chippenham today charged with robbery, attempted burglary of the station ticket office and possession of offensive weapons, including a knife and a sickle.

A second man was arrested in connection with Wednesday's station attack in Trowbridge town centre at about 5pm last night and is being held by police at the divisional headuarters in Melksham.

During the attack the elderly attendant had his hands bound with cable ties and was threatened with the knife and sickle.

He was left very shaken, with cuts and bruises and had his gold wrist chain stolen during the incident.

Where are the public toilets at Trowbridge station?

Clearly visible in the background of the first photo here.

http://www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/search/3967988.Train_station_raid___photos/

In the fourth photo you can see the top of the bin that replaces the one that was thrown on the tracks the other week.

The skateboarding tip park can be seen in the background of the second picture.

Thanks, tramway. Your interpretation of "clearly" is a slightly different to mine, but yes: I can just about make 'em out now you mention it. It's been a while* since I used Trowbridge station and there certainly weren't any toilets there then, which is why I asked!

*when I say "a while", I'm not going back as far as the 1960s, i.e. before Trowbridge Station was completely decimated, obviously!

Apologies Phil [/rant]

The 2 lads deserve the praise for what they did, but I will wait and see how long till the next 'incident' happens at the station.  Undecided

There is still a long way to go to make up for the destruction of the original buildings, and I don't believe the unitary authority is going to help. Probably less chance of a decent County town transport interchange than Melksham getting a decent timetable. Angry

There is huge potential for a Trowbridge transport hub with the sad demise of Bowyers, but will the opportunity be taken, will it buggery.

...  and I don't believe the unitary authority is going to help. ...

You might be surprised at this one.   I went to a meeting at County Hall in Trowbridge late last month, addressed by the chief executive, council chair, chief financial officer and others, where they were telling local business people about budgets for next year and Unitary.  And they were telling us how they're talking to government with a view to getting recession-busting short term investment to take into account "not only inner cities, but also other urban areas such as Salisbury, Trowbridge and Chippenham".

As someone who lives ... not in one of these three towns ... I was concerned at that meeting that every single council representative used the same "Salisbury, Trowbridge and Chippenham" phrase, to the extent that the future council's marketing of itself seems to have selected those magic 3 to the almost complete exclusion of all the other parts.  Bradford, Westbury, Warminster, Melksham, Marlbourough and Malmesbury ... be alert!

For more on that meeting, see:
