A teenager's arm has been seriously injured after she fell between a train and the platform at Wokingham Station this morning.

The 18-year-old fell onto the tracks and was struck by a Reading to Redhill First Great Western train.  Her arm was badly damaged and she was taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "An 18-year old woman has been injured after falling onto the tracks at Wokingham railway station today.  The incident occurred around 8.15am and was attended by BTP▸ (British Transport Police), Thames Valley Police and the South Central Ambulance Service."

The accident led to disruption of train services.  Power to the lines had to be shut off.  First Great Western was diverting passengers into London and South West Trains had to send its Waterloo to Reading services via Ascot until power was turned back on just before 9.30am.

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
