Just received this from FGW (First Great Western), who are also sorry for the disruption this is causing to passengers :

Quote from: FGW (First Great Western)
In terms of background we had some serious track circuit problems at a few locations between Romsey - Salisbury since Sunday and initially it was believed to be connnected to contaminated railhead due to leaf fall. However, NR» (Network Rail - home page) are not satisfied that this is the cause and clearly technical testing needs to be concluded. This has resulted in the introduction of " block working" in the area and hence delays and some services having to be withdrawn due to congestion.

More problems in the area this morning (27/10/2008.) From the FGW (First Great Western) website :

Train services between Westbury and Southampton Central are being disrupted due to signalling problems in the Dunbridge area.Engineers are working as fast as possible to restore services to normal. Short notice alterations and delays of up to 20 minutes can be expected.
