OK - I know what happened; my slipup (and now fixed). There's a link that will allow anyone to view in the earlier post .. and you should also get to the comparison from http://www.wellho.net/share/firstclass.html

There's a short article about the West Sprinter fleet refresh in the Staff magazine 'The Works' - out today. Work on the 158s will start at Wabtec Rail in Doncaster at the end of July. The 150s and 143s will be done by Pullman Rail at Cardiff. The investment in the fleet will be ^11 million which is more than the franchise commitment . Interiors will include CCTV▸ , new ceiling and wall panels (to reduce noise and vibration levels) and laminated glass. There will also be technical work to improve reliability. (Yay - new elastic bands!). It looks nice (well, it would do, wouldn't it? ). The complete fleet should be finished in 12 months. Here is an artist's impression of a 153....

I'm not surprised they are spending more than they said they would at the start of the franchise a)because of the delays in getting started and b)the state most of the fleet was in to begin with, particularly the 153s. Still as the saying goes 'All good things come to those who wait' and commuters and staff who travel/work the 'West' fleet sure have had to wait their turn!

Unlike the HS▸ stuff. I take it we will be keeping the original seating?

It's all well and good letting the staff know about the work, why oh why can't they let the poor old punter in on what they are going to be getting. Wessex did a good job with the refresh of the 150's with part of their web site dedicated to the fleet and the work and an indication of when the job was likely to be completed, at least we knew something was being done.
First seem to want to keep everything a secret while we all complain about the dreadful state of the stock. Why not advertise this more widely as I for one can now at least look forward to some improvements.

Any pictures / ideas on the 143 interiors?
I travelled from Swindon to Melksham on one last night and the seats, etc, didn't seem too bad (the ride was very "noddy" though as you would expect from a nodding donkey - especially out of the day in Swindon).
However - the train looked like it has been (ab)used by a drunken crowd since it was last cleaned, with the floor sticky with spilled [something], newspapers and rubbish strewn all over ... I think I'll start a fresh thread on the topic ...

The 153s are having totally new, higher seats. Class 150s and most the 158 will be same seats with new moquette. First unit to be done is a 158, and will now go to 'works' end of August.

Yet another delay. Was meant to be the end of July that the first unit was going into the works. Glad they are replacing the seats in the dogboxes (153s) The seats in 150s and 158s are fine just need recovering and new carpet in the case of the 158s.
