More than 1,000 exhibits will be on display at the Somerset Steam Spectacular in Low Ham near Langport from tomorrow until Sunday. The village is bracing itself for the arrival of more than 40 working steam engines, a host of vintage and classic cars, tractors, hot air balloons and many other classic forms of transport, at Netherham Farm. There will also be tractor-pulling competitions, helicopter and balloon rides, trade stands, craft stalls, bars and entertainment.
Tomorrow will see the return of the Friday Road Run. At 9am more than 100 vehicles, ranging from enormous military and commercial transports to gleaming Penny Farthing bicycles will travel through the countryside returning to Low Ham by 3pm for a welcome parade at the start of the rally weekend. With a range of steam traction engines, the procession should present a fascinating picture of transport history during the past 100 years.
This year the event promises to be one of the largest and most impressive events run by the Somerset Traction Engine Club during its 52-year history.
