William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

Torbay's cancelled beach party for as many as 10,000 revellers this weekend is being probed by police as a 'prank which went too far'.

Senior officers have confirmed that one of the supposed organisers has made contact with police in the last 24 hours to admit the seafront bash was a bogus event which snowballed out of control.

Sorry to sound like a grumpy old man, but am I alone in thinking an unknown number of "senior police officers", each with no doubt fairly handsome salaries paid for at taxpayer's expense, could occupy their time a little more effectively than investigating whether a beach party is legitimate or not?

It's not so much the police response to the perceived threat to public order with that I take issue with, that's fine; but I do have a problem with the fact that it requires "senior police officers" to deal with it!
