I have a "Cornish Rivera" timetable somewhere, not
sure if its 1963 or 61? But I can go to my local
library, I might be able to scan it there and send
by e-mail if they'll let me and if your interested?
Also do you plan to do other regions, as I have a
complete North Eastern timetable for 1963? Lots
of long lost branches!
Agree it is amazing to look at, it just shows you
what we have lost and what a comparison to todays
in some cases excuse for a timetable.

Hi Lee,
I think you find the Ashchurch - Evesham - Redditch line belonged to the LMS▸ . Although they were next to each other, Evesham actually had two stations, an LMS one and the existing GW» one. In earlier times the line ran through Ashchurch to Tewkesbury, Upton on Severn and on to Malvern.
It was a useful diversion to the Lickey Incline. It is a real shame it was axed, but then again so many useful lines were axed at that time.

I think it was right to axe it as far as Evesham (although possibly not to rip up the line - as you said, a useful diversion route), but why it was severed between Evesham and Redditch I don't know (exactly as mad as axing between Honeyboune and Stratford - removing links and thus creating stubs).
They obviously had plans afoot already for the new motorway to use the track-bed (in the end it was the new A46 that was built).
As for the 24 hr clock. Even though I fully understand it, several hours such as 1700, 1900, 2100 cause me to have to stop and think and convert. Or I incorrectly think for a second that 1700 is 7pm, then I correct myself. I basically hate it! I would rather Digital Doris was a bit more human sometimes and said "platform X for the 5 past 4 train to Y" instead of "....for the sixteen o five service...."
Does anyone say "the time is seventeen o four?"

Its in the 1963 WR timetable, though, which is what I'm currently working on and posting from. Its also noticeable how many of the services in the WR timetable also appear in SR▸ timetables of the same era, so you'll probably notice some crossovers in that respect as well. |
