I too am very unhappy that FGW (First Great Western) are removing this service - what bliss the 7.21am non-stop from Swindon to London is! Does FGW think that all us commuters get 8 weeks off every summer and so won't need to go to work? I shall miss this service dreadfully - will have to bombard FGW with complaints... Angry

I'd say that running a service to Newquay is more important, although I imagine its possible to find an HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) somehow!

The 6.40 ex BTM (Bristol Temple Meads (strictly, it should be BRI) but BTM is a commonly used alternative)) is quite lightly loaded most of the time, and i think FGW (First Great Western) are right in re deploying the Stock. prehaps though thay should look at missing out Reading on the 6.30,

Like many threads on this board it just goes to show how short of stock FGW (First Great Western) is to run the a train service to meet the current demand.

Makes you wonder why they got rid of the Adelantes and now can't get them back because  everyone else  is clamouring for them.

We'll just have to go back to loco hauled there are plenty of coaches around including Mark 3s with automatic doors. The problem is what to haul them with. Re-engined regeared 37s Ok for locals up to 90, or a passenger Shed with 100+ capability (not a 67).

The view from FGW (First Great Western) (link below.)
http://firstlatewestern.blogspot.com/2008/06/so-we-gotta-say-goodbye-for-summer.html

Quote from: FGW (First Great Western)
This service has been removed, as the rolling stock is needed to operate an additional service to Newquay. I appreciate the inconvenience that this causes you and we would very much like to be able to operate both services. However we only have a finite amount of rolling stock and train crew and therefore we must cater for the service that we know will be busiest.

The timetable is a very difficult balancing act and it is inevitable that changes to the services will not please everyone. We do our best with the resources available to us to put together the best possible timetable and this sometimes means that services will need to be cancelled or retimed.

The school summer holidays are certainly a factor of our summer timetable; however through the summer months we make changes to cater for the increased number of holiday makers that we know will be using our services. The majority of our customers holiday between the months of June and September.
