The first 95% of the work takes the first 95% of the time - the final 5% will take the second and third 95%s of the time

{like} ;-)

The test forum has been running like treacle (or more like tar) overnight - and I have just found what I think may be the cause.   I am leaving it to run for an hour or two to be absolutely sure before I do anything else.

Known issue that I will then look at
- The "like" system is failing to allow new likes
- The buttons and helpers at the top of new post submissions are not working
Both of these are Javascript options / internet security does not like code being passed from the backroom server to the front of house server and some code changes are needed but I need to be sure the other stuff ir right and not treacle first.

Postings, personal messages, etc, posted ARE being added to the database as normal so you can carry on ...

It seems that I have managed to melt the tar and performance issues and it's running much better.  Google has found the new https rather than http site and is enthusiastically indexing us.

Like sorta-works.   Security issues mean it gives you a blank page back rather than updating the existing one, so you need to refresh to see that you have liked - a bit irritating but such a key feature to bring back as soon as was practical and in doing that work I have other exciting stuff on the new server.  I have capitalised the word LIKE to alert you to the fact it's a bit different at the moment.

Buttons and helpers at the top are working, and I have now managed to upload a new avatar.

Lots still to do in various places but corefunctionallity is back - and thanks for all the confirm of the various browsers too.

You can find out more about how this forum works [here] - that will link you to a copy of the forum agreement that you can read before you join, and tell you very much more about how we operate. We are an independent forum, provided and run by customers of Great Western Railway, for customers of Great Western Railway and we welcome railway professionals as members too, in either a personal or official capacity. As well as posting messages onto existing threads, and starting new subjects, members can communicate with each other through personal messages if they wish. And once members have made a certain number of posts, they will automatically be admitted to the "frequent posters club", where subjects not-for-public-domain are discussed; anything from the occasional rant to meetups we may be having ...
