AQ17 - Correcting the subtitling, GWR

We all know when we watch the TV^▸ (Thames Valley) how subtitles are generally excellent but can struggle with real names (people, places, etc).  They can usually be worked out from the context.    Yesterday late afternoon, I sat in on the GWR^▸ (Great Western Railway) Stakeholder Webinar with subtitles switched on.   Wide ranging and lots of useful nuggets and background - established contributing members can read much more at http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/29635 .  To give you an idea of how wide ranging the discussions were, here are some groups.

Trans-Penney is a character in ‘Accessible’, a modern, more inclusive version of the 39 Steps

Chilton railways is a new, very cool open access operator in the Greater Bristol area

Trans worlds line is Elon Musk’s new graphene Hyperlink tunnel to Mars

Milkshire, or Melkshire in the correct spelling, is the ancient county whose county town is of course Lacock

I'll have a go at Group 6, which seems to be partly compiled by a veteran of Montgomery's desert campaigns in North Africa

Porto Said is a port city in Egypt

Charlby and Childbury are both suggested names for the King's new town project in Dorset that ended up being called Poundbury.

Abbasid Line News Group was the Second World War North African equivalent of the "Wipers Times" published in the Flanders trenches in the First World War

I think Payton was the actor who played "Gloria" in "It Ain't Half Hot Mum", now banished form our screens for making fun of peoples' differences.

A common problem. Is it because we don't speak clearly and distinctly, or because the software expects American accents. It gets even more challenging with technical subjects, results more like pin the tail on the donkey.

It is remarkable good on general text - just struggles with real names where there's no equivalent in the USA.   Then when there is somewhere in the USA like Tampa, it prefers that to Temple.
