Not an obvious topic for a rail related board but....

The government seems intent on setting a up polyclinic in each PCT area.

So where is Cornwall's going to be? How will people get to it.

Same question for Grahme where's Melksham's going to be?

Here we have a classic case of disjointed government.

Has the DoH talked to the DfT» (Department for Transport - about) re sitng of polyclinics in relation to public transport?

Probably not, so perhaps provision of public transport should be something we raise when a polyclinic comes to us.

Curiously enough, the Accident and Emergency unit in Melksham closed aboout 6 months ago, and the facilities are now in Trowbridge or Chippenham.   My Dad had an eye operation - day surgery - and we took him to Westbury for that.   And Also within the last year, the Wiltshire and Swindon Heritage place has opened on Cocklebury Road near Chippenham station. It covers the whole of the current Wiltshire Goverment area, with the two largest towns involved being Salisbury and Trowbridge.

There is certainly a move towards centralising specific medical and other facilities - from reducing the number of post offices through to access to government services to medical treatment centres.  But ... as you say ... perhaps no-one has told the DfT  Wink

P.S. Melksham Hospital is now the specialist leg ulcer centre for miles and miles around, so there's a good inbound traffic to the town of people with gammy legs!

Thanks Grahame for your reply. I bet what's happened in Melksham is  happening all over the country.

Maybe although it's health we should shout very loudly and clearly "Public Transport and Rail" whenever centralisation or moves of facilities are proposed.
