Typically for the Reading Chronicle, its headline says "Reading train station death: Person killed near Thatcham".

My wife is on the 7.37 from Maidenhead (having waited 30mins for a service)and is reporting it as dangerously overcrowde.
Driver has apparently decided to make additional stops at Iver etc. not that anyone waiting can actually board the train.

Always amuses me when people think it’s the drivers decision to make additional stops.

Somewhat bizarrely the Elizabeth Line Heathrow service has been suspended due to "non availability of signalling staff"

Well you're in good company - it was Jerome K. Jerome who threw the related matter of whether drivers chose the destination of their train into the pot and that was around a century and a half back, at Waterloo when the driver of the Kingston train gently reverse-pulls their legs by pretending to be persuaded to choose Kingston as his destination.

We are a forum of pedants, Im afraid - but all done in the best possible taste and with almost complete politeness and mostly good humour and understanding  Grin

It reminds me of the story of the chap who drove out to the pub one night for a drink, and had rather a lot or alcohol. Advice was given that he should take the bus home, and he followed that advice.    Good job he did, because the police had a checkpoint and were stopping all cars to check that all car drivers were sober, but they waved the bus straight through.  In the morning as he sobered up, our chap wondered what the bus was doing parked outside his house then he remembered he had driven it home last night.   A good example of where the driver of a public transport vehicle does chose his destination.
