Already eyeing my return commute for this evening and note cancellation of 50% of Elizabeth Line and almost all GWR (Great Western Railway) services due to ‘warm track syndrome’.

Both GWR and TfL» (Transport for London - about) are suggesting that commuters use the other’s service….

I think the issues on the Elizabeth Line are due to overrunning engineering works. I don't see too many GWR cancellations listed on Journeycheck at the moment but it's not overly reliable and it is reasonable to assume that once we have the wrong type of sunlight everything will fall over.

Bit confused by this one?  GWR's Maidenhead services all appear to have run with nothing over 15 minutes late all day.

That's with extra freight being pushed through because of the engineering block Oxford<>Leamington Spa.

My information was coming from Journeycheck which was showing cancellations to Didcot services around lunchtime, plus the Elizabeth Line cancellations due to the overrunning engineering works.

As it came to pass I took the 19.20 Didcot service, arriving 11 mins late at Maidenhead.  11mins is quite a long delay on an 18min planned journey time.

That's odd.  From what I can see, nothing was cancelled at Maidenhead, GWR (Great Western Railway) wise, all day.  Indeed you could argue performance during hot weather has improved over the years, though from a hopelessly low bar!

The Elizabeth Line service was pretty grim for most of the day, mind you.

A broken down freight train is not an infrastructure problem ie failure or fault ............... its a broken down train

Sort-of agree with you.  But.

<advoccate mode=devil>It IS an infrastructure problem.  The problem is that the infrastructure is not available when it should be for timetabled passenger services</advocate>

This question does NOT apply to this forum line, but it's not worth a new thread all of its own.

Do electric loco's fail as often as diesel ones?
I'm guessing there's far less mileage with overhead lines compared to non electrified lines, so diesel mileage will far exceed electric mileage.

We're sorry for the delay to your journey this morning. Due to a points failure in the Newbury area, the line towards Reading is blocked. Points are the equipment used to allow trains to move from one track to another. Network Rail are sending staff to site to rectify the fault.
-
Our local stopping trains between Newbury and Reading / London Paddington are unable to run. Stations between Newbury and Reading will not be served by trains. Reading West station will still be served by our Reading to Basingstoke trains. Customers travelling from Newbury towards Reading / London may wish to make their way to Didcot Parkway station to start journeys there. Tickets will be accepted on this route.
-
Our high speed long distance services between London and Devon / Cornwall can still run, however trains in the London direction only will need to be diverted between Taunton and Reading.
-
We now have confirmed road transport in place. Coaches are shuttling between Reading and Newbury non stop. We have 8 seater taxis shuttling between Reading and Newbury calling at all stations. These taxis depart from the front of stations. Train tickets are being accepted at no extra cost on local bus Jet Black 1 (Newbury Wharf, Thatcham Cropper Close, Midgham The Angel, Aldermaston Bath Road, Theale The Crown, Reading Station Road).

Delays to services between Theale and Newbury

Due to a speed restriction because of heavy rain between Theale and Newbury trains have to run at reduced speed on some lines.

Train services running through these stations may be delayed. Disruption is expected until 20:00 01/08
