For the third time in 10 years! And this time not just for a couple of months: https://nationalhighways.co.uk/our-roads/south-west/a36-limpley-stoke-carriageway-repairs-and-stabilisation/ The A36 Warminster Road will be fully closed between Limpley Stoke and Monkton Coombe from Monday 12 August 2024 til spring 2025.
Please plan ahead, follow the signed diversions, and leave plenty of time for your journeys.
Access to properties within the closure will be maintained, and our traffic marshals will be there to help out and make sure things run smoothly.
We’ll be working to stabilise the embankment by the southbound carriageway. By taking care of this now, we're preventing further issues and keep the main carriageway safe.
We understand that road closures are frustrating. By fully closing the road, we can get this scheme done safely and quickly, causing less disruption overall.
Work is required to stabilise the embankment following cracking in the footpath alongside the southbound carriageway. This will prevent further movement, and reduce the risk of damage to the main carriageway.
The repair work will see installation of a concrete piled wall and capping beam to stabilise the embankment, as well as new drainage and pavement. The works will require clearing vegetation and excavation of the cracked pavement sections.
During the closure, the team will also install netting on the rock cutting above the northbound carriageway as well as undertaking repairs to the viaduct and retaining walls in the area.
The A36 Warminster Road will be fully closed between Limpley Stoke and Monkton Coombe from Monday 12 August 2024 to spring 2025.
A diversion will be in place for northbound traffic via A361, A350 and A4. For taller vehicles, please use the A361, A350, M4, M32, A4174, A4 and A36. Southbound traffic should follow the same routes in reverse. Once complete, these improvements will benefit road users and the local community for many years to come. Uh huh? Wow! That's a full closure of the whole road for up to nearly a year. I note their rather vague proposed completion date as 'Spring 2025'. Spring 2025 starts on Thursday, 20 March 2025 (in 252 days) and ends on Saturday, 21 June 2025 (in 345 days). We shall see.  |

Blockade at Limpley Stoke to be temporarily lifted to allow work to take place works on a railway bridge and on the A350. Was factored into the original timetable so won’t delay the work taking place at Limpley Stoke. https://www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/news/24590623.a36-closure-lifted-allow-repair-works National Highways is to lift the A36 closure for three weeks to allow repairs to take place to Limpley Stoke railway bridge and the A350 road network.
The government's highways agency says closure will be "temporarily lifted" from Friday, October 18 to Friday, November 8.
A spokesperson said: "During this period the road will be reopened under traffic lights with one lane open past the works on the embankment stabilisation.
"National Highways has been liaising regularly with Wilshire Council and the lifting of the closure was agreed as part of the original programme for the A36 work, to allow maintenance work to be undertaken on the A350 near Westbury." continues… |

The road was initially closed in August for nine weeks, reopening in October to allow for works on the A350 and M4 before it closed again.
Earlier in February, National Highways confirmed that the road will reopen under two-way traffic lights from Saturday, March 1, and it has now officially opened. Continues including pics of work that has taken place.

Although the A36 closure signs have been taken down at Beckington roundabout, and Bath repainted as lane white road marking, there are lots of signs still up saying it was closed.
This morning passed one on Warminster bypass, and another approaching White Row roundabout, and diversion signs were still up on A361 at Rode.
So Highways agency is not good at correct engineering works info either
