06:28 Swansea to London Paddington due 09:13

06:28 Swansea to London Paddington due 09:13 will call additionally at Severn Tunnel Jn.
This is due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time.

Got me thinking - could there be significant flows from Severn Tunnel Junction (and Patchway and Pilning) to and via Bristol Parkway to Swindon and London?    I guess this is part of the market being looked at under the Open Access proposal ...

Before the Severn Bridge became free, wasn't there an era when the DfT» (Department for Transport - about) allegedly reduced the number of services stopping at Severn Tunnel Junction on the basis people were using it as a Park & Ride and abstracting from the bridge's tolls?

Quite possible but folklaw usually tints the spectacles and fuzzes and simplifies reality.

I would suspect that with Bristol Parkway as a Park and Ride, the powers that be (whoever they were in those days) didn't want to add yet another station call on the London expresses ... perhaps in addition to the Severn Bridge toll issue.     Similar to Corsham with "you want WHAT to stop - are you joking!!"

This SSO is primarily done because the Oompey behind is only a 2 or 3 car vice 5. Anyone for Filton or BTM (Bristol Temple Meads (strictly, it should be BRI) but BTM is a commonly used alternative)) to change at BPW» (Bristol Parkway - next trains).

I remember on my handling in 1994 driving the 0730 Cardiff Pompey several times as a 2 car and barely half a dozen people standing coming down Filton Bank. How times change.
