This approaching solar storm MIGHT have serious consequences for radio communications, including cellphones and GPS and for large power grids.
Not that likely IMHO▸ , but possible.
Undesired currents may be induced in long metallic structures including pipelines, long wire fences, and RAILWAY LINES. Maloperation of railway signals is possible.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards,luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU▸ is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

It has space for cycles, surfboards,luggage etc.

Well, the 1974 politicians' answer is, "There's nothing wrong with brigade, but we've reorganised the counties and renamed/rebordered them, changed the emergency services areas, so we may as well rename them too." Probably a bit of 'forward to the future' too. 'Brigade' is just so old fashioned. Vote JayMac. On the ballot paper as, Mr None of the above.  |

Suggest splitting this thread and moving the fire brigade/fire service remarks to the lighter side, but retaining solar storm warnings here, for now at least. There is now a rare RED warning for solar activity. |
