Portsmouth - Cardiff should resume tomorrow (Friday)

.... but just for a day, as line is part suspended on Saturday & Sunday for Severn tunnel works.

I wonder if GWR (Great Western Railway) were consulted, and said yes to the timing of the works, interrupting just one day after reopening through service was deemed agreeable by GWR

There are also other weekends of TW disruption coming up.

Quote
The line between Swindon and Chippenham will be closed on the 1st and 2nd March.  Some trains from London to Bristol will be diverted and not call at Didcot Parkway, Swindon or Chippenham while a few will call at Swindon but then use an alternative route missing Chippenham and Bath Spa.  TransWilts services will only run between Chippenham and Westbury.  Buses will replace trains between Swindon and Chippenham.  Trains to Cheltenham and South Wales will run with some minor timing changes.

On the 15th and 16th March track replacement work on the Melksham single line will see buses replace trains between Chippenham and Trowbridge.

Further work in the Didcot area means changes on the last two weekends of March.  This will see trains to and from Bristol and South Wales diverted and not calling at Didcot Parkway, Swindon and Chippenham.  TransWilts trains will terminate and start back to Westbury at Chippenham with bus connections to Chippenham.

Portsmouth to Cardiff is a bit of an oddball in that the number of through passengers is very low indeed - so disruption towards one end only effects a very few passengers towards the other.

From Cardiff Central - journeys by tickets sold (2023/4)
1st Newport
4th Bristol Temple Meads
17th Bath Spa

The next phase of Westbury works (track consolidation etc) takes place this weekend.  But this time buses are also doing Trowbridge Bath (and trains Salisbury-Warminster

Replacement buses are planned via Westbury between:
Bath Spa and Frome
Bath Spa and Warminster
Chippenham and Frome

In addition, separate buses are also planned for stations between Bath Spa and Bradford-on-Avon.

Trains between London and the south west will stop at Frome instead of Westbury.
