1966, and Devonshire Tunnel saw its last trains save for those involved in track recovery.

2024, the tunnel, reopened in 2013 as a popular shared-use path, has been closed since the turn of the year by flooding, groundwater gathering there at a greater rate than the somewhat blocked railway-era drainage can remove it.

The start of the week also saw some contractors kit stabled at the tunnel entrance - work is in progress to sort a couple of issues with water the other side of Maple Grove Bridge where the tunnel drain surfaces, or rather, doesn't surface... at a later date, the tunnel drain itself will be further investigated and hopefully fixed.

I spent the 6th of March 1966 on the Railway Correspondence and Travel Society
Somerset & Dorset Farewell Rail Tour.
Waterloo to Poole then Broadstone to Templecombe. Thence to Highbridge and on to Bath Green Park via Mangotsfield. Finally, double headed 34013 & 34057 back to Templecombe, over Masbury summit.
The Highbridge branch is accessible at RSPB Ham Wall, dogs allowed, and across the road towards Shapwick, dogs not allowed. Refreshments and toilets at Ham Wall
