Personally, without BobM's "re-instated" post I might not have got back to Melksham by train.

I can't claim the credit for that - it was my esteemed colleague Timmer.

Goodheavens my huge apologies ... I can only blame my own - well, my own something; the last 48 hours have been so filled with inputs that my outputs have been checked even less that usual ... thanks, all, for helping and where appropriate covering.

Alert that my next 48 hours will remain chaotic on Town Council business as I read into the 100 pages of agenda concerning the future of the Blue Pool and Assembly Hall for an extra meeting.

I looked upon the GWR (Great Western Railway) advice for the 17:44 for an example journey to Warminster.   It says
Quote
This service has been cancelled. We apologise for the inconvenience. Please select another service or amend your search here

Nothing there about an alternatives provided at the same time / price by road.

Bit cheeky in my view to cancel a train and suggest you pay twice as much to get there another way,  or to suggest you get there at ten past nine rather than half past six.

Regular readers will know that GWR Staff would accept a direct route ticket via the dogleg if the direct train is cancelled, but is should not be up to passenger to know that. It's this sort of thing that makes it very hard indeed for me to trust the GWR promise that they will always consolidate to and offer the lowest walk up fair available when you travel on their pay-as-you-go system.

Thanks Bob - noticed than and edited back into my post ... 4 hour Sunday gap again, and as far as I can tell no road transport offered nor local bus suggested.
