Yes that’s very true, Graham.  It’s very dependent on time of day and route offered, but certainly is often the case.

Facilities on the 17:50 Gloucester to Salisbury due 20:06.
Will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 4.

Which is a wee surprise because I would have not expected it to be planned as 4 ....  2 is plenty, though

.........every day is BBQ day it would seem!

More seriously though, this ("crew shortage") does seem to be becoming a daily occurrence now whereas before it was at least almost solely a Sunday feature.

Theory ...Regular industrial action co-ordinates the times that drivers did not work onto selected dates ... but without any industrial action scheduled in the run up to the election, the cancellations are much more scattered and happening at much shorter notice.

In amongst a veritable flood of GWR (Great Western Railway) cancellations and short runs today - 20 cancellations and 18 short runs across the area.  Almost all "shortage of train crew", though I do note the Swansea to Pembroke Dock service missing out Carmarthen because of a points failure.

Is it a co-incidence that this staff shortage is severe today when the Euros are underway?

Possibly, but given the fact this is now becoming a daily occurrence it smacks more of very poor workforce management - but for your theory I'd say tomorrow is the day to watch - BBQ Sunday and England playing later in the day.
