The "on this day" diary is looking a little thin for the rest of this month.   What can members offer me as "it happened on THIS day in a previous year" for ...

17th November

19th November
20th November
21st November
22nd November

24th November
25th November
26th November
27th November

29th November

I already have MUCH better coverage for December, though the final days are marked with a melancholy series of closures

19th November 2011 Last Boat train to Stranraer ran.

I have added that to the "on this day" diary - also learned that "According to Herald Scotland, the Stranraer Sleeper ceased on 14th May 1990.".  (Railforums Thread).     Very interesting read from Hansard in defence of the sleeper in 1970.  Stranraer is just about as obscure from GWR (Great Western Railway) territory as you can get on the UK (United Kingdom) mainland ...

From RailScot:
Quote
The very last "boat train" to Stranraer will run on Saturday 19th November 2011. This will be the 1704 service from Kilmarnock arriving at Stranraer at 1852 for the 1955 sailing of the Stena Voyager to Belfast. 20 November - Dartmoor Line reopened in 2021.

Love that and similar stories. Far too many accidents and closures come up by date, and far too few openings!  On Monday, headline link on the forum will take you to Okehampton!
