From Worcester News

Quote
A TEAROOM which is like a time capsule for the romantic heyday of the railways is to close after nearly 40 years, marking a sad departure for Malvern.

To step inside Lady Foley’s Tearoom on platform one at Great Malvern Station is to be conveyed into the high elegance of the Victorian age - but with all the modern comforts of hearth and home.

The cafe is named after the landowner Lady Emily Foley, the widow of Squire Foley, who lived at Stoke Edith and was a celebrated benefactor to the Malvern Community with a great influence upon town affairs after her husband's death in 1846.

The leaseholder wishes to retire, but this has been brought forward by the drop off in passenger numbers

A shame.  The newsagent outside the station went under during Covid, so that means the immediate station area will be without anywhere to buy any provisions.

Hopefully someone else might take it on, or a coffee hut/wagon would find it a worthwhile venture?

I've been there a number of times over the years and will miss it.  I read the news article in full and sadly it makes no mention of anyone taking it over but I do hope that someone does.  It even gets a free plug on TV (Thames Valley) every time the relevant "Architecture the Railways Built" episode gets repeated!

If there are any Coffee Shoppers living locally, it would be interesting to get any updates.

I went up to Great Malvern today and visited Lady Foley's. I'm fairly sure I haven't been there before (I have been to the station quite a few times but have always headed straight out into town). I thought it was lovely, not too fancy but a great atmosphere and food. Glad I had the chance to visit before it closes.

(As an aside, as the ticket office was closed, the toilets weren't accessible, and the only toilet that could be used on the station was in the tea rooms, so when this closes...)

...there'll be toilets on every train calling.
