Google are retiring their old Google Analytics tags at the end of next month, and if I had done nothing. many of our stats would have ceased to be available from 1st July.  So I have been replacing "Universal" tags with "G4" tags in our pages and hope to see new data gathering on stream in the next 24 hours.

Hopefully I can make the mods without (too m)any broken page notices, and with limited data loss. However, the simple and well know set up system (well known to me, anyway) system appears replaced by an awesome set of facilities allowing me to do things like help Google place the right adverts in our site (! we don't ...) etc so there may be glitches and loss of stats data as we switch.  It will certainly (has already) impacted the May headline numbers.

One of the big problems is that one wants both:
a) An unchanging interface to give long term comparison
b) A changing interface that allows advantage to be taken of technical's advanced.
Not a problem unique to Google - we have to do our best to compromise with the tools we have

From my post around 2 p.m.yesterday until midnight, there were 170 different visitors to the Coffee Shop (first 10 hours of the new data collection) of whom 168 were from the UK (United Kingdom), 1 from the USA and 1 from Pakistan.  Total "events" - URL requests logged - 3,300.  Data gathering has restarted  Grin

Do you have something you would like to add to this thread, or would you like to raise a new question at the Coffee Shop? Please [register] (it is free) if you have not done so before, or login (at the top of this page) if you already have an account - we would love to read what you have to say!

You can find out more about how this forum works [here] - that will link you to a copy of the forum agreement that you can read before you join, and tell you very much more about how we operate. We are an independent forum, provided and run by customers of Great Western Railway, for customers of Great Western Railway and we welcome railway professionals as members too, in either a personal or official capacity. Views expressed in posts are not necessarily the views of the operators of the forum.

As well as posting messages onto existing threads, and starting new subjects, members can communicate with each other through personal messages if they wish. And once members have made a certain number of posts, they will automatically be admitted to the "frequent posters club", where subjects not-for-public-domain are discussed; anything from the occasional rant to meetups we may be having ...
