Two cancellations from yesterday (15 August)

1704 Didcot Parkway to Moreton-in-Marsh and the returning 1851 Evesham to Oxford.

And some more morning short-formations:

15 Aug - 0514 Worcester Shrub Hill to Paddington
Today - 0523 Hereford to Paddington and 0643 Worcester Shrub Hill to Paddington

15 Aug - 0514 Worcester Shrub Hill to Paddington
Today - 0523 Hereford to Paddington and 0643 Worcester Shrub Hill to Paddington

And a "long-formation" (if that makes sense). Today train 1W11, the 05:53 Paddington - Great Malvern (arrive 08:38), and the return working 1P22, the 08:56 Great Malvern - Paddington, were operated by a 9-car unit.  It was only a 5-car on Monday and Tuesday.

As a result of the issues in the Didcot area:

Quote
12:53 London Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street due 15:00 has been cancelled.
This is due to a fault with the signalling system.

whilst the previous service, 11:52 Paddington to Hereford, is currently going through Didcot North 69 minutes late, and will terminate at Great Malvern.

updated to add details of 11:52 truncation

As a result of the issues in the Didcot area:

whilst the previous service, 11:52 Paddington to Hereford, is currently going through Didcot North 69 minutes late, and will terminate at Great Malvern.

It lost even more time - 77 late at Oxford, 97 late at Shrub Hill - and 110 late at Great Malvern.
The return journey, normally the 15:18 from Hereford, left Great Malvern 27 late and was held at Charlbury. It arrived at Paddington 31 late.

And there's another cancellation this evening:
Quote
18:57 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 21:21 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.
Last Updated:16/08/2023 02:22
Note the time-stamp. I had assumed that it would be reinstated at some stage, but no.

Facilities on the 12:53 London Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street due 15:00.
This is due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time.
Will be formed of 3 coaches instead of 9.

It has been previously delayed and is now 23 minutes late from Moreton-In-Marsh.
This is due to this train being late from the depot.

The empty journey from the depot ran 29 late.  It left Paddington 24 late, recovered a bit of time but then lost it again.

The CLPG» (Cotswold Line Promotion Group - about) have been informed that "20 or so 800s are with Hitachi awaiting parts (the contract provides for only 13 undergoing overhauls at any one time)) and are told they are having to use several trains running with one diesel engine out of use. Mark Hopwood has been very vocal with Hitachi and the DfT» (Department for Transport - about) on the issue and accusing breach of contract by Hitachi. The latter blame shortage of parts.

But MTU (Motor Traction Unit) apparently blaming Hitachi design faults with inadequate cooling systems which they apparently raised when it decided to uprate the 800s to 940 bhp ."

1203 Padd to Penzance today was terminated, very unusually, at Redruth arrg at 1716 39 late
“Due problems with the traction equipment”
It had already had its Totnes stop cut out and was specially given a clear run there;  shades of the times when HSTs (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) on one power car did not stop at Totnes  or had a loco attached over the steep South Devon banks.
With the steadily increasing number of GW» (Great Western - used as an abbreviation for the area / lines under the Great Western franchise, as opposed to FGW which includes "First", the company operating them too. For tickets - about) based IETs (Intercity Express Train - replacement for HSTs (manufactured by Hitachi in Kobe, Japan)) running with engines isolated, might we see a Thunderbird loco. based at Exeter ?!
