Surely better this way around than continually only cancelling one at a time thus keeping people's hopes up & eventually p*ss*ng them all off when no trains ultimately run after all? Huh

I see where you're coming from Chris, and if you have a reporting system that is just a switch that can be thrown "off" or "on" then, yes, you are probably right.  However, with the current system there's a concern at what point you tip that switch over and perhaps an "in doubt" flag could help; it might raise false fears in those not educated to what it meant.

... and running short now ...

Quote
06:35 Salisbury to Worcester Foregate Street due 09:47 will be terminated at Worcester Shrub Hill.
It will no longer call at Worcester Foregate Street.
It has been previously delayed but is now 28 minutes late from Westbury.
This is due to a fault with the signalling system.

I don't know how busy this train is on that final stop ... though my personal feeling from going to / from Worcester is that Foregate Street is the station to use for the City centre and that it's quite a walk onward from Shrub Hill.

Personal memories ... filming the Four in a Bed payment show within a few yards of Foregate Street!

There was a GWR (Great Western Railway) service to Great Malvern about 25 minutes later - giving an arrival in Foregate Street at 10:16.  A delay replay of 29 minutes.

As well as being city centre, think Foregate Street will provide many connections that Shrub Hill will not, though it's complicated...

Cancellations to services between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads via Chippenham

Due to flooding between Swindon and Chippenham the line towards Bristol Temple Meads is blocked. Disruption is expected until 11:15 10/11.
Train services between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads via Chippenham and Bath Spa may be cancelled, delayed or diverted.

Customer Advice

We're sorry for the delay to your journey.

Owing to flooding in the Dauntsey area between Swindon and Chippenham the line towards Chippenham is closed.

Trains between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads will be diverted and not able to call at Chippenham or Bath Spa. If you are travelling to either of these stations please remain on the train, travel to Bristol Temple Meads and then take the first avaible train back to these stations.

If you are at Chippenham and travelling to Bath Spa or Bristol Temple Meads, please board the first train towards London Paddington and change at Swindon for services to Bristol Temple Meads.

We will update this message with more information when we have it.

I have heard from a regular Westbury to Swindon traveller that he's been advised to travel via Temple Meads today ... rather at variance with the advise that it's just the line towards Chippenham that's closed. I wonder if it would be possible to provide Westbury to Chippenham service, with passengers from there for Bath and Bristol travelling via Trowbridge.  Also noting "disruption expected until 11:15" and yet the train 2 hours later is cancelled.

Time to fix now given as 13:00.

Cancellations to services between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads via Chippenham

Owing to flooding in the Dauntsey area between Swindon and Chippenham, one of the two lines is closed. We can still run trains on the other line, but this means fewer trains are able to run.

At Bristol Temple Meads, London trains that leave there on the hour will run as normal, via Bath Spa and Chippenham to Swindon and onward to London Paddington. Trains that leave Bristol Temple Meads at half past the hour will divert straight to Swindon and not call at Bath Spa or Chippenham.

At Swindon, Bristol Temple Meads trains that leave there around 20 minutes past the hour will run as normal, via Chippenham and Bath Spa and onward to Bristol Temple Meads. Trains that leave Swindon at around five to the hour will divert and run straight to Bristol Temple Meads, not calling at Chippenham or Bath Spa.

However

Quote
Flooding in the Chipping Sodbury area between Swindon and Bristol Parkway as resulted in the line being closed. Trains will be diverted via an alternative route which will add around 25 minutes to journey times.

As the diversionary route is also affected by flooding we can only run one train a hour in each direction between London and South Wales.

Looks like there are two conflicting sets of diversions there ... and that GWR (Great Western Railway) have given up (without any advice) on running any services from Westbury and Trowbridge to and from Melksham and Chippenham.  Bus ticket acceptance on Swindon - Chippenham has been declared. Why not (as a minimum) on Chippenham - Melksham - Trowbridge?

A quick scan of Journeycheck suggests that the rest of the day's Transwilts services are cancelled however as we know, recently Journeycheck has been somewhat more inaccurate than usual
