Railway Touring Company 'The Sherborne Christmas Carol' railtour, hauled by 44871 Stanier Black Five Class 5MT, from London Victoria to Sherborne and Yeovil Junction. Seen here passing through Templecombe around 1pm on Tuesday 6th December 2022.

This locomotive was one of the engines that hauled the Fifteen Guinea Special, the last main-line passenger train to be hauled by steam by British Rail on 11th August 1968.

Plenty of Templecombe folk out to see the steam today. Helped, no doubt, by the hot drinks, cakes and snacks provided by the 'Friends of Templecombe Station'.

Bonus Finn photo.

I was due to head out to Sherborne Old Castle to phot the railtour coming down the bank from Milborne Port into Sherborne, but, sadly, the old castle is closed for the winter, so chose to get the train to Salisbury, phot the railtour, then head back to Templecombe (the railtour was due to stand at Salisbury for an hour) and join JayMac. Following a late phone call, I abandoned the Templecombe stop to meet a relative at Sherborne station instead. (So, missed out on the tea and cake  Sad )

Tea and cake again, along with the Wincanton Silver Band and carol singers, at Templecombe for the railtour's return journey around 5pm.
