Hello. This morning at 7am there was a huge tailback along the Botley Road in Oxford because of temporary lights due to roadworks. It would have been handy if there was some way that I could have known about this in advance. Oxfordshire County Council have a website where they list major projects, but this looked more like a utility firm digging the road up. I see there's a 'live roadworks ' link on the OCC website, but nothing there. I looked on twitter in case there was anything posted there, and tried a few of the media sites like the Oxford Mail, but couldn't find anyone passing on useful info about ordinary delays happening now. How do other people find out about potential delays to driving trips  please? Do you rely on apps like Google maps to know about them? Any tips or information about there will be a similar delay tomorrow morning on the Botley Road would be very gratefully received. Thanks.

This website is the bees knees for *planned* roadworks. I believe that they all have ti be logged here. You can subscribe to a daily roadworks alert that is renewable every 7 6 months & hits your inbox overnight every night, listing works starting the next day.

It doesn’t list works every day they are happening - just the starting date the night before & sometimes 48 hours in advance, so beware.

Also, itdoesn’t list smeegency works like those for burst water mains

I always check https://one.network/uk/devon before heading out on the bike. The Devon flavour of the website gives start & end dates for roadworks so perhaps the content varies depending on which local authority is responsible for inputting / providing the data.

If there's a problem on your own local highway authority's website linking to the One Network site, try gaining access using a neighbouring authority's site. They all seem to link to the same site, and you can navigate around on One Network to view adjoining areas.
