So the point of installing hugely expensive barriers, which cannot cope with a mint condition ticket, printed ten minutes ago, is ... ermm, what, exactly ??

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

The magnetism provided by Avantix▸ (Ticket Issuing System used on board trains) machines is not on par with those issued by ticket machines in ticket offices and TVMs▸ (Ticket Vending Machine) and hence the magnetism wipes out quicker - for instance, get an Avantix ticket from a guard for a London all zones travelcard. Do not put it anywhere near a mobile phone or credit card or anything that could possibly remove the magnetism... then go around trying barriers on the Tube - should wipe out within about 4 valid reads... whereas a TVM should last the day.

Interesting.

I tend to put my newly purchased ticket in the breast pocket of my shirt, for convenience - well away from my mobile phone, credit card, etc.

Clearly, it is purely my personal magnetism that renders it unreadable by the time I reach the barriers at Bristol Temple Meads!

Isn't this a justification for FGW▸ (First Great Western) (or whoever) to use a different supplier as the existing product isn't "fit for purpose "?

Pretty much all operators use Avantix▸ (Ticket Issuing System used on board trains) Mobile for their on train ticketing as there really is no practical option otherwise.

Should have said - Reading did it last night no problem

I also spoke to Roy at WOS» (Worcester Shrub Hill - next trains) and told him the name and number of the form and how they did ti - they are going to investigate so they know for the future!
