Yesterday a friend and I were following a walk of Brunel-related sights around Bristol, from a book of similar historical walks. One of the points was supposed to be a statue of Brunel on Broad Quay. We couldn't find it and neither of us could remember having seen it. A local trader who we asked (Falafel King, yummy falafels and pittas) didn't know about it. But we did see a statue of Brunel on Station Approach, which isn't in the book. As the book was published in 2002, we suspect this was the same statue, which must have been moved at some point.

Can anyone confirm this? And if it is the same, does anyone know when it was moved? The point of the walk was because my friend is going to lead a small group around the walk next Sunday, so this was a trial run. Thanks for any info!

It is the same statue.  JayMac helpfully found the details to this on a question that I posted yonks ago on a thread titled Brunel Statue found in Bristol (WECA» (West of England Combined Authority - about)) commuters.

The placing of the statue in its old position was a mistake. Most of the year it was hidden in the shade of trees and it was quite possible to be inches from it and not know it was even there. Now at least you cannot miss it, and it should have been there from the very beginning. I think that the reason it was placed where it was, all those years ago, was that a nearby firm in one of the office blocks put up some of the money for it, but I could be wrong.
