From Rail Advent

Quote
The public has been asked to vote on the name for a new railway station in Liverpool.

The new station will be on the site of the former St. James’ station in Liverpool.

To avoid any confusion with the existing James Street station in Liverpool city centre, the new station will have a completely different name to avoid confusion with James Street station and that will reflect the modern area in which it will be located.

[snip]

After initial discussions between the scheme’s main partners, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Network Rail, Merseyrail, and Liverpool City Council, the following shortlist of potential names has been produced:

Liverpool Baltic
Liverpool Parliament Street
Liverpool Riverside

The public vote is open until 5 pm on Friday, 18 February and can be accessed here

[continues]

Only the choice of three given, so anyone who wants to call is Wilfred, Gladys, or Station McTrainFace and campaign for that is likely to be disappointed.

There used to be a Liverpool Riverside by the floating dock at Pier Head. I remember checking it out waiting for an Isle of Man boat many years back. Owned by the MDHB, it closed in the mid seventies.

That's an interesting design in the linked article and I recommend the fly through. I wondered how they were going to fit everything (lifts, escalators and emergency exits) into such a confined space. It is useful that this used to be a three track railway to get it all in and push platforms back into the tunnels.

I see the name chosen to  follow the German practice in having the name of the City at the beginning.

I tried to count the number of Frankfurt (Main) stations there are, I lost count at 30

For readers who do not speak German, "Main" is an area of Germany, I believe, and this is not any sort of reference to a Central or General Station, as you also have in places in the UK (United Kingdom) like Liverpool and Wrexham.

Official name is 'Frankfurt am Main' ('Frankfurt on the [River] Main'), differentiating it from the other city in what was East Germany, 'Frankfurt an der Oder'
