Correct.

Looks like an early attempt at DOO (Driver-Only Operation (that is, trains which operate without carrying a guard)).

Based on the West Midlands Trains/West Midlands Railway class 196 'Civity' unit and the large gap between the running lines, I am going to take a punt on image 8 being taken from the canal towpath on Edstone aqueduct.

7 is Banbury, looking south from the Down Loop platform.  The platform starter is one of the newest semaphores on the network, allowing trains to turn back there - used frequently during the Reading remodelling.

Edit to add (read the question, rower40, do keep up...)
Train is a Chiltern Railways DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) of some flavour.  (168? 170?)  I'm not fussed about rolling stock as long as it obeys the signals and operates the track circuits.  (And possibly, stays put in its sidings overnight - see recent RAIB (Rail Accident Investigation Branch) report about a runaway from Toton.)

Correct. For once I was in the right place at the right time Smiley

None of that is correct I am afraid.

7 is Worcester Shrub Hill (P2 looking south, if you must know). As to the unit, I can't say any better than rower40 - it's some kind of Turbostar, in the base colours of Chiltern's livery but with the incriminating details missing. So I'll take a guess it's one of the ex-TPE (Trans Pennine Express) 168s in the process of being redone for Chiltern - which might explain its being out of area.

Sorry no wrong sort of Turbostar and wrong reason.
