Residents of North Parade are preparing for battle over plans for 56 new homes they claim would be more suited to Benidorm than Falmouth (link below.)

The Blue Space Property Group has plans to redevelop the picturesque riverside site between numbers 18 and 28. A formal application has now been submitted for 50 flats, five town houses and one bungalow, with basement parking for 69 cars.

"It's an absolute monstrosity," claimed resident Peter Fernie. "This is North Parade, not Benidorm."

The proposed development would be a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments and houses spread over three to four levels and built in six separate blocks. A bungalow overlooking foreshore is planned.

Residents fear they have an uphill battle on their hands, but are determined to fight the scheme. "This will be the biggest development Falmouth has seen for many, many years," said John Treveal. "The loss of the river views is certainly of grave concern to residents, who are keen to protect them not just for their own benefit, but for the people of Falmouth in general."

Residents are concerned that North Parade could not cope with extra traffic. "Traffic and parking is one of the main issues," said Jenny Treveal. "The road is just not wide enough and how many people living there will just park on the road?"

In their design statement, CSA Architects state:

Quote from: CSA Architects
"The run down edifice of wharves and buildings now stand out in stark contrast on the waterfront to the genteel private gardens and leisure facilities which line the river banks.

"For this reason it seems most appropriate that it be developed as a mixed use development including residential, elements of commercial and leisure.

"It would be reasonable to assume that the architectural character of this area could see marked improvements and redevelopment in the next few years which has the potential to create a bold 21st century gateway into Falmouth along the axis of North Parade."
