The council bought former Plymouth University playing fields at Ernesettle and these, together with the former Imerys china clay works at Coypool near Plympton, have been earmarked for possible waste treatment.

Some info on the former Imerys site near Plympton :

This site was once a military base and also where the main Exeter- Plymouth line branches off, for what was an alternative route to Tavistock, via Plymbridge, Shaugh Prior, Clearbrook, Yelverton and Horrabridge. Now it is a site for a Park and ride to Plymouth and is home to the Plym Valley Railway, the latter is only a site for storage of some old diesel engines and I believe they are trying to restore an old dockyard steam shunting engine. There is a platform there and they do run a train down the line (only about half a mile) on some occasions. They are hoping to one day run trains down to Plymbridge but can't run much further because parts of the line have been sold off and developed. Some of the old military buildings are being used for industry, eg. Princess yachts.
