Cos we just passed one at oxford

Looks like a banana coloured HST (High Speed Train) with half of its innards ripped out but a load of other kit in it and lots of computer?

It measures the condition of the track, the geometry etc.  See http://www.iroyoungprofessionals.org.uk/events/2006_june.shtml for a report.  The idea is that by having a train to it rather than people walking the track you don't have to close the line and the inspection is therefor less disruptive and safer.

they have got more than 1,there is a converted 150'1 that does it aswell

they have got more than 1,there is a converted 150'1 that does it aswell

The 150/1 track recording train wasn't Converted, but was an Add-on to the 150/1 production run of units IIRC (if I recall/remember/read correctly).

It also takes a video recording of the track condition, so after the accident at Graygrigg, they had evidence of the condition of the points a couple of days previously. Very useful for the investigators.
