Thank goodness we have made the very blunt (and heart-breaking) decision at the Melksham Transport User Group NOT to promote train use to new leisure travellers from our station this summer.

And today after I wrote that.

Quote
17:53 Weymouth to Bristol Parkway due 20:55 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.

Additional Information

Limited rail replacement road transport from Weymouth for Upwey, Dorchester West, Yeovil Pen Mill, Castle Cary, Bruton, Frome and Westbury has been arranged.

That's the Melksham to Weymouth day out ... I am so glad I'm not having to explain to people that I have encouraged to take a great trip why they've had a pretty grotty bus ride (and I wonder if they would have made the connecting train).   I would be embarrassed.

If there were another train 30 minutes or an hour behind, it would be a sensible back.  As it is, the "insurance plan" of limited buses is inadequate beyond belief.

I dare say quite a few had a long bus ride home. Hope they put enough buses on to cover both the 16:10 and 17:53. See http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=25378.msg310543#new

Personally, I’d have stayed for the last train of the day, the 20:09 but I suspect that train was pretty busy tonight.

17:50 Gloucester to Southampton Central due 20:36
17:50 Gloucester to Southampton Central due 20:36 will be terminated at Westbury.
It will no longer call at Dilton Marsh, Warminster, Salisbury, Romsey and Southampton Central.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.

At least it's running on the TransWilts section - otherwise it would have been the second cancellation in a row and left a gap from quarter past three to quarter to nine from Swindon.
