Just come across this:- Couldn't see it elsewhere on the site, apologies if it is.

This map shows many of the small sidings, which are missing on other maps. Things like The West Wilts Trading Estate at Westbury are most interesting, I remember going by there on the bus on the way to school every day and seeing a little saddle tank loco in the shed waiting to start work. When you see the layout you realise why they needed their own locos.
The lines up to Codford camp are shown but nothing for Sutton Veny.

Interesting map for addicts though !

Mentioned within some long resource lists ((here)) but well worth a separate highlight.  Someone has done an awful lot of work and some of the networks are fascinating!

I took a look (a while back) at using these as underlays for some of the disruption map stuff I have been doing but ruled them out for various reasons such as the level of detail which superimposed onto out other data would have been far too much.

What a fascinating map.  I wonder if someone can help me there is a zig zag of sidings off the LSWR▸ (London South Western Railway) line south of Chard Junction between Broom Gates and Axe Gates.  Does anyone know what this was?

If you run your mouse pointer over the siding on the map it will change to pointed hand, click and it comes up with Broom Ballast Siding.

The gravel beds here were used by the L&SWR» (South Western Railway - about) to obtain ballast for the line in this area following the line?s opening.

A large number of Palaeolithic  worked chert artefacts were turned up by the workmen.
There is an 1878 article on the site available through JSTOR, if you have access.

Sadly the Liskeard and Caradon Railway is missing  Embarrassed ( Liskeard-Moorswater- St Cleer- Tokenbury- Minions-Cheeswring Quarry)

Ah!!!   Thanks for that - I have found the County Donegal and the Londonderry and Lough Swilley now.  Do you have a trick / button for turning off the background and changing colours?  Those lines shown in yellow, especially, are hard on my eyes which are not as good as they used to be.

Use the Map button upper right. You can turn off the Terrain on the default map. Alternatively try one of the other backdrop maps.
