From the
Bath Chronicle:
A woman who has made it her mission to get the area around a Bath railway station into first-class condition has been presented with an award.
Local councillor June Player set up the On-Board project to improve the appearance of Oldfield Park station, planting flowers and organising litter picks.
Now she has been presented with the outstanding volunteer contribution award at the Association of Community Rail Partnerships national awards.
Independent politician Mrs Player first started planting flowers in 2006 and set up the 20-strong On-Board group a year later.
Members take responsibility for different sections of the garden, which include plants in the shape of a pig, a train, and an Olympic torch.
With the support of Severnside Community Rail Partnership, Bath and North East Somerset Council and rail firm First Great Western, the station has also been brightened up with community artwork.
Severnside partnership officer Heather Cullimore said: "Severnside Community Rail Partnership and First Great Western are extremely grateful to all of our community rail volunteers for the contribution they bring to enhancing local stations. It is wonderful to see June and the On-Board group receive recognition at a national event."
