I still come back to why is it closing?
It can't be to help passengers, so it must be to save FGW▸ money, at the expense of service to their customers by replacing people with machines.
Of course the great thing about machines for FGW is that many irregular/ one off travellers will people will buy the most expensive single ticket to their destination even if they are coming back.
They also don't sell 4 for 2 in the old NSE▸ area this is only available from manned booking offices.

Any they don't sell off peak tickets until a few minutes before they become valid. If you arrive at the station early, buy your ticket during teh restricted period, buy a paper and drink and then catch a train after the restriction has lifted you get stung. I understand why the macines are programed thus but I would have thought that the operator was legally obligied to notify the customer that a limited range of tcikets was available?? Oyster▸ PAYG▸ also has problems with deciding if you travel in the peak or not. If you touch in in the peak but don't board a train until after the peak, you are legal on an off peak ticket but Oyster will charge you a peak fare! |

I believe the proposed replacement of the ticket office with machines is part of a franchise commitment - but I'm not sure of the details.

The meeting between FGW▸ and London TravelWatch has already taken place, and took place last Thursday 5th June. From what I have been told there is no objection from London Travel Watch or Passenger Focus regarding FGW's plans to close the office.
However there is still currently no set date, as a further meeting needs to take place with the Department for Transport. Once this final hurdle is done, and approved, if it is, then a consultation will be released to the members of staff who are affected by the closure outlining dates.
When more information is known, I will post it here. |

It is estimated that the office will be closed by around the middle of July 2008
A consultation is being released to the staff of the office affected next week and when I get the opportunity to see this I will once again update on the blog.
The consultation would be the document which will have the set dates of changes, so basically the official confirmation. |

Plan is to take out the windows and put TVM▸ 's in it's place. The shell inside will be used as an office for some other department.
