Take the bus, not the train?

The following just popped up on a newly updated web site from a travel company in Wiltshire:

Please follow Government advice and avoid travel by train unless you have no other option.

Really?

Yes, I know and understand that public transport is for essential journeys only, but this fresh advise points me towards choosing the bus rather than the train.

Some thoughts ...

* The longer you're in the vicinity of a carrier, the more likely you are to catch the virus off them.  As train journeys between the same points tend to be much quicker that bus journeys, does that not make the train safer?

* On trains, entrance / exit does not involve you going past a driver or other staff member to pay or have your ticket checked, whereas that has to be done on a bus.  Does that not make the train safer?

* Trains are multiple carriages long and with several doors per carriage - increased capacity even with social distancing and less pinch points to go through. Does that not make the train safer?

Where is the government advice that puts train in very last place - behind bus - if you 'must' travel?

All true - that should read 'public transport', not 'train' in your quote above. Tsk, tsk.

I did wonder ... but as it's such a prominent message from a DfT^» (Department for Transport - about) recognised organisation, I thought I had better check I hadn't missed something obvious ... definitely says "train":

Which only goes to show that, whatever the source is that you hear or read something from, its always best to independently verify it
