Because of someone having a brain in "fleet". A hybrid unit has been made out of 2 "halves". Half of 150244 in FGW (First Great Western) livery and half of 150248 in Wessex livery. http://jimsphotoallery.fotopic.net/p49517822.html

Both, bit of a coincidence that two halves have broke at the same time, looks weird though.

57244 and 52248 both have faults so someone decided to split them up and make 1 good set.

saves having 2 sets stood down.

Quite rare for "Fleet" to think that one up though!

under wessex I seem to remember driving half of a 158 plus a 153. No clue as to numbers -sorry.

not permanent as soon as other bits are repaired then they will be reformed to standard.

i remember seeing hybrid sets under wessex a few times 153 and 158 as previous post

also some other tocs have done it a 153 coupled to half a 156

I belivethat was in the Wales and West days. There's a photo in 1 of the mags of it then going up the Marches.
