I have taken advantage of the generous spray of cancelled and delayed trains due to Storm Dennis this morning to update the "next fastest direct train" pages.

The idea of the pages is that with a URL like http://www.mrug.org.uk/tau.html you can get a list of upcoming departures from Taunton, then using a pulldown you can select your ongoing destination and find your train, platform, how may intermediate calls it makes, how many carriages and - importantly - whether it's worth getting on that local train via Weston-super-mare or if you should wait for the Cross Country express.  Real time data.

Improvements in the application this morning now indicate cancellations and delays much more clearly.

Newcomers to this "app" - start with the URL above and change your start station; it works for several dozen stations - I won't list them all here.

And I have taken advantage of a continuing data feed full of "change features" to try out a few more things - pass on the reasons the rail industry is giving you, and removed the platform number from cancelled trains as there is no point in standing there to watch it not come in.

On pages like this, there's a balance between providing enough information and too much. I have added the train tracking number after the operator's name.  Resisting the temptation to add too much more.
