Hi to folks down in Devon & Cornwall I am asking if any of the stations on any of the branch lines has a sign the wrong way, as ours in Melksham has the exit arrow point left and should be pointing right If you were to go left you could exit to the station but this is over 5 bar locked gate. I know the clocks went forward yesturday so if you do get of the 19.11 or 19.47 you can see which is the correct way out. Can you help us? Would be cheaper for FGW▸ to do a swap then make a new one. Thanks

Sorry, I am lost with this "customer" thing- I have read it on several boards (Why not move this topic to "Across the West?"). As far as I can see, only you, Sion, have used the word "customer." What are you trying to say?

Both, you are a passenger on a train, and a customer of FGW when buying a ticket, this should mean that staff can talk to faredodgers like sh1t as the're not a "customer" as they haven't paid!

Yes, I understand your point about wanting to be a passenger etc. But where did your post come from? Where did the reference about Haines come from? That's what I'm confused about! ----- As for me, I prefer passenger.

I for one prefer "customer", but we can agree to differ. The reason for my choice is that the word "customer" implies a relationship where the person who is using the services provided by FGW▸ should be the one for whom that service is provided. It could be argued that at present the customer in some instances is the Department for Transport, who have specified how many trains to be run and laid down some constraints on timing, but in such a way that operational convenience is more important to the TOC▸ than providing the travelling public with a train at the time he / she wants. I know that's the case on the TransWilts and I question the very odd looking schedule on the Newquay line too. In hindsight, perhaps the term "passenger" is best - and that things might be better from Newquay to Par, and from Trowbridge to Swindon, if they were truely treated as the "customer".

It has one of the two pictures (above) on, and that one mentions passengers (or was it customers).. Maybe Sion or Grahame could point us in the direction of the other post if it is still around?

Yes, the thread has wandered off, hasn't it? Let's leave the "customer v passenger" for another area, should we, and I'll explain the original topic
It started off like this ....
If you get off a train at a station you've never been to before, you hope for certain signage such as station name, and a sign pointing to the exit and (perhaps) to the town. We've not had such directions at our station for a while - the Wessex panel that showed such details was replaced by a sign about the TOC▸ , with the graphic of a map replaced by a photo of the Station Manager responsible for the area. So we were sort of delighted when a new sign went up ...
EXCEPT ... it's the BACK of the sign you see when you get off the train. You have to find the gate in the fence yourself and then guess where the town is, or double back into the car park to see which wasy it points if you realise there's a sign at all. It would be much better to have a "opposite hand" sign.
Now - although our town is pretty large = population around 23,000 - our station is very similar in service to some of those in Devon and Cornwall (actually we have far fewer trains than such metropolises as Luxulyan and Sandplace) so we wondered if any of them had the same situation - but with a sign of the "hand" we need. The we could ask FGW▸ to swap them (or, heaven forbid, let us swap them) and you'ld have a "win, win".

There used to be a sign at Coombe Junction above the waiting shelter (put up by Wales & West) showing from left to right:
an Blue arrow pointing Left, Liskeard/Looe, Blue arrow pointing right
Think about it!
