London Travelwatch are advertising for a new director in
The GuardianTransport matters. Everyday millions of us travel in and around London and the quality of our journey has a major impact on how we feel and what we achieve. London TravelWatch is the voice of London’s travelling public, speaking up for all those who travel in London and influencing decision makers to improve that experience.
This is an exciting opportunity to join us and lead the team, positioning us at the forefront of decision-making as London tackles the transport challenges facing it as an expanding city. We have established a new partnership with our sister organisation Transport Focus which will strengthen our collective resources and are looking for a dynamic communicator, changemaker and leader with a passion to make a difference for London.
Reporting to the joint chief executive of the two organisations, and acting as the London Director, you will be the principal spokesperson for London TravelWatch and will lead an integrated team of policy, casework and communications staff to develop strategy and influence change in the capital. Your role will be to join up all the great work the organisation does to have maximum impact with our stakeholders.
"TravelWatch"s spun from the old TUCCs (Transport Users Consultative Committees). Whereas TravelWatch NorthWest and TravelWatch SouthWest only have the power to persuade, to inform and to connect people, London TravelWatch has a statutory position and a salaries team (this position being advertised draws a salary) unlike the regional ones where those of us who are directors do it for love, but with limited sponsorship from the transport industry who see the value in having community transport groups liaising to be well informed, working well together for common goals, and to come up with well thought out suggestions.
On our forum, London TravelWatch has cropped up a few dozen times over the years - see
