I think I mentioned before that there used to be a BR (British Rail(ways)) Guard based at Plymouth who always used to announce our arrival there as "Welcome to Sunny Plymouth" even though it was usually p***ing down.  It always used to make the regulars laugh. Grin

Over the years I heard some great on board announcements and not only on GWR (Great Western Railway). I recall either XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) or Virgin had a bit of a card doing the Bristol to Totnes run that I was travelling on a good few years back, basically delivering a one man show as the journey went on. On a particularly overcrowded Temple Meads to Redland service a GWR chap lightened the mood with announcements of the stations such as "Resplendent Redland" and so on. He urged passengers not to forget to take their belongings and food with them unless they were bacon sandwiches or sausage rolls, which where is particular favourite.
I won't forget the guard who, on a Cam and Dursley bound service said he'd soon be round to check the tickets for all the "escapees from Yate".

I wonder whether he's the same conductor who sometimes welcomes people to Wales in Welsh on the approach to Severn Tunnel Junction?
