1 Trowbridge was probably taken between 18th and 22nd of June 1874 when the gauge was altered over one weekend. One line has been narrowed and the train is running on the broad gauge line

Amazing.  One wonders how long it would take to convert - say - to metre gauge - in 2019.   Or would it be starting to 2019 and carrying on through 2020 ...

Preparation was the key a lot of work was done on the lines before the weekend. Even so, when you consider this was done over the WHOLE of the Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth from Thingley to Weymouth.
Some years ago I spent time in the National Archives looking into the records of that period.

Yep, Chippenham Parkway ... surrounded by acres of car parking.  And in such a stupid place for a Parkway as the access is through the town, the main south side car park being on what used to be the most populous cult-de-sac in the UK (United Kingdom)!

No. 3 "The Flying Banana" that is an HST (High Speed Train) derived train this will continue to still be seen about on the network, I am not aware of NR» (Network Rail - home page) plans to replace it as its currently the only maintenance recording train capable of full line speed running of 125 mph
