My news feeds and browsing lead me to so may stories that just might be of interest to members ... I'm opening this thread with a handful from the last couple of days, and I'll come back and add further bunches from time to time.

* Writing in "Introductions and chat"- these are introductions to topics after all, and it's likely that each individual topic would be best placed in a different board - I can see "Wider UK (United Kingdom)", "Wider, World" and "Cycling" already

* Happy to split the thread an move things around if any of these spark conversations.

Heritage railways and railway history is not just a UK (United Kingdom) thing

Is the profit in the rail industry more in the maintenance and retrofit these days?  Although this story is from Canada, I have heard the something said by a very senior person at a major rail industry business with worldwide contracts that's here in Wiltshire.

That's news to me that there was a railway presence there, I never saw any indication when I was there, mind you it was Honolulu Island that I was billetted on.

When I was in Fiji (Viti Levu island) I couldn't make time to ride the Sugar Cane Express which ran over the rail network covering the sugar cane plantations which was used to bring in the raw sugar cane to the processing plant.
