Kids on the tube

I am planning to take two kids (aged 11-15) for a day out in London in a couple of weeks, and would like to get my Oyster^▸ cards sorted as far as I can before I go.

I have a TfL^» account, with a contactless card registered to it, so I'm sorted. I also have two Oyster visitor cards and a regular Oyster card, which haven't been used for years.

Ideally I would like to have two active Oyster cards for the kids, with Young Visitor discount applied, ready to go when we get to Paddington, but I'm starting to realise that I may be being a bit optimistic..!

Can anyone advise me? Should I just cash in the Oyster visitor cards and order a new regular Oyster card for child 2? Do I need to go to an Oyster Ticket shop to get this sorted?

I'm sure I've recounted my experience buying kids' tickets on the tube. I don't really have an answer but trying to sort something out before you go sounds very much advised.
