MODERATORS I think this should carry a health warning before anyone opens it! Some of the awards may cause severe distress to some forum members. In particular, our large and vocal cohort of IET▸ critics may want to take their medication first!

Interesting to note that the "Train Operator of the Year" nominees include only one franchised TOC▸ , Greater Anglia. The others are a concession metro service, Docklands Light Railway, and the Rail Delivery Group. That shortlist shows just how poor franchised TOCs have been recently.
Quite how that last one can be nominated as "Train Operator of the Year" is beyond me. They operate no trains at all.

Well one large critic of IETs▸ is disgusted to see that the introduction of same has been shortlisted for an award. I will be even more appalled if they win an award.
Delivered late. Don't work reliably.
And a substantial downgrade to passenger comfort and facilities.
Perhaps somone needs to organise a rival competition with awards for the following.
Worst TOC▸ of the year. Worst major station of the year. Worst mid sized station of the year. Worst small station of the year. Least reliable ticket machine Least reliable station lifts.
Worst existing rolling stock. Worst new rolling stock.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard. It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc. A 5 car DMU▸ is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Google search took me to https://www.railopsgroup.co.uk ... Train Operating Services ... what ROG do New fleet deliveries New fleet testing, commissioning and fault free running Provision of Signal Protection Zones (SPZ) Fleet transfers and cascade programmes Fleet movements for refurbishment and modification programmes Fleet storage.

I stand corrected and embarrassed. I saw "Rail" and "Group" and jumped to an incorrect conclusion. Still, only one franchised TOC▸ nominated.

Worst existing rolling stock.
That one's fairly easy if based on reliabilty. It's a two horse race between: Hull Trains' Class 180s GWR▸ 's HSTs▸ .

I had never even heard of the "Railway Operations Group" ... but then as they don't operate trains in passenger service as far as I can tell, why would we (as a passenger group) have come across them??

Yes, some very dubious nominations in amongst that lot. However, in my opinion it would be appropriate to see the arrangements for the Royal Wedding acknowledged as that was an event which really was well organised by both GWR▸ and SWR» . The people on the ground on the day as well as those who did the preparatory logistics.

Seating comfort, including legroom, at a table, window view etc. Catering. Other facilities such as wifi, power outlets, luggage and cycle space, heating, cooling and lighting. And the reliability with which the train turns up, which can differ from overall fleet reliability.

I wasn't aware that the "arrangements for the Royal Wedding" were made by GWR? "Get me to the Church on time" would have been quite a challenge if that had been the case! ☺. I'm sure the extra stops at Slough & extra Windsor shuttle capacity was appreciated.....but surely not THAT much of a logistical triumph compared to (for example) Glastonbury? ........or......(whisper it quietly)........is a certain invisible Mark in line to become Sir Mark in recognition of his Herculean efforts on Harry & Meghan's behalf??? Let's hope her Majesty's hand is as steady with the sword as ever should that be the case! 😃

Quite a challenge in my opinion. A largely unique event compared to your example of Glastonbury which is (pretty much) the same thing every year with similar arrangements - though usually also done very well.
